Race: The Movie: The Play is a wildly irreverent, razor-sharp screwball satire of prestige Hollywood race dramas. No white savior is spared in this fast-paced comedy that gleefully skewers every tone-deaf Oscar-bait trope audiences know all too well.

The story follows the brilliant Black musician Gene Yus on a concert tour through the Deep South of the 1850s escorted by Wyatt Saveyer, a rough-around-the-edges white chauffeur. But what begins as a familiar awards-season drama quickly spirals into complete comic chaos, exploding into a slapstick parody.

Winner of the New York Theater Festival’s awards for Best Script and Best Actor, Race: The Movie: The Play played an extended, sold-out run at Soho Playhouse — all with a marketing budget of exactly $0.
